Join the Red Cross, support "United We Serve"
You can give back to your community this summer and support President Obama's summer call to action – United We Serve – by donating blood or platelets through the American Red Cross.
By simply rolling up your sleeve and giving blood, you can help support quality healthcare in your community and across the nation, and help shore up a safe, stable blood supply for patients in need.
Make your appointment to donate blood or platelets today. And find out how you can get involved with the Red Cross in other ways by visiting this link.
Start your engines – it's Red Cross Racing time
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
It's Red Cross Racing time!
Whether you are a die-hard NASCAR fan, a loyal Red Cross blood donor or just an interested bystander looking to help save a life, the Red Cross invites you to participate in the second annual Red Cross Racing program. Red Cross Racing members will have a chance to get points for blood donation activities and exchange them for NASCAR-themed prizes, such as limited edition die-cast cars.
Leading the team again this year is Red Cross blood donor and NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, sponsored by 3M and Roush Fenway Racing. Learn more and register at redcrossracing.com.
Grab a treat, you deserve it!
American Red Cross blood donors will be able to enjoy new snacks in blood drive refreshment areas beginning this summer. The new snack items have been selected to meet the unique preferences of blood donors with a focus on healthier options including zero trans fat, gluten free and kosher snacks.
To further enhance your donation experience, remember to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast or lunch and drink extra non-caffeinated beverages to replace the volume you'll donate. Visit this link to find more tips for a good donation.
Calling all donors!
Gina Soucheray has donated blood and platelets through the Red Cross for more than 30 years. Even so, when the need for blood hit home, her eyes were opened anew to the lifesaving power of blood donations.
"My mother fell in the nursing home and needed surgery requiring two transfusions," Soucheray said. "I was in the room when nurses brought in the blood. When they read the donor ID number, it left a lasting impression with me. I truly connected the ring of donation at that point. It made me realize how important each donation is. I went home that night and emailed every contact in my address book urging them to donate."
You too can spread the word about the importance of blood and platelet donation, and make an appointment to donate today.

May eNewsletter survey results about why you visit the Red Cross Facebook page.
We wish we could list all the great feedback we get from donors, but there's only so much room.
Here's one response to the May eNewsletter from Denise Shirley-Carter of Hudson, Wis.: "You need to put out there to have people go to the Target Facebook page and vote to give you $3 million!"
Thanks for your suggestion, Denise! We did just that and gained 26 percent of the votes in Target's Bullseye Facebook competition May 10 – 25. Ten non-profits competed for a piece of Target's $3 million donation. The Red Cross received $793,942 that will be used to change lives around the country and around the world.
Thank you for spreading the word!
Thanks to all of the Red Cross donors who forwarded the May eNewsletter to at least five friends and helped spread the word about the importance of blood donation!
Jean Westergaard of Green Bay, Wis. was the May raffle winner of a Red Cross fleece blanket.
You could be a winner this month. Everyone who forwards this eNewsletter to at least five people using the Send to a Friend feature will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a vintage Red Cross beach towel.
