Music Saves Lives 2009

Music Saves Lives

Do you rock to 3OH!3, The White Tie Affair and A Skylit Drive? Give blood at an American Red Cross Music Saves Lives blood drive and you will get the chance to win special incentives to see these bands and many more at The Vans Warped Tour! All presenting donors are eligible to win.

Last summer, blood donations by high school and college donors dropped by as much as 57 percent at Red Cross blood drives when schools were out of session. To encourage donors to continue giving blood during the summer months, the Red Cross and Music Saves Lives – a non-profit dedicated to connecting people to lifesaving causes – are offering special prizes for The Vans Warped Tour, the longest running music festival of its type in North America.

Vietnam native knows importance of Asian American donors

Music Saves Lives

Vietnam native Cuy Ho, a 25-year-old sociology major at the University of Louisville, knows the importance of donating blood. He has been a regular donor at Red Cross blood drives held at his local Vietnamese Community Center for the last two years.

Cuy's donations can help meet the needs of all patients, especially Asian American patients who may require specially matched blood to treat certain illnesses. As a whole, Asian Americans have a higher frequency of type B blood than other ethnic groups, as well as rare blood types that can be better matched for transfusion to Asian patients.

"I will continue to volunteer at our community center drives," said Cuy. "I'm happy to help spread the word about the importance of blood donation to the Vietnamese population."

Your blood donation helps ensure a stable and diverse blood supply for all patients in need. Make an appointment to donate today.

Sounding Off

We wish we could list all the great feedback we get from donors, but there's only so much room.

Here's what Jan Petersen, donor and mother of blood recipient said:

"I realized the importance of giving blood when my own son needed several emergency transfusions eight years ago at the age of 14. Blood was available for him thanks to the generous people who donated. I was so grateful that I wanted to become a donor too."
