Vietnam native Cuy Ho, a 25-year-old sociology major at the University of Louisville, knows the importance of donating blood. He has been a regular donor at Red Cross blood drives held at his local Vietnamese Community Center for the last two years. Cuy's donations can help meet the needs of all patients, especially Asian American patients who may require specially matched blood to treat certain illnesses. As a whole, Asian Americans have a higher frequency of type B blood than other ethnic groups, as well as rare blood types that can be better matched for transfusion to Asian patients. "I will continue to volunteer at our community center drives," said Cuy. "I'm happy to help spread the word about the importance of blood donation to the Vietnamese population." Your blood donation helps ensure a stable and diverse blood supply for all patients in need. Make an appointment to donate today. |
